Cary Fukunaga To Helm “Bond 25”

Filmmaker Cary Joji Fukunaga, the helmer of the first season of HBO’s “True Detective” and acclaimed films such as “Jane Eyre,” “Beasts of No Nation” and “Sin Nombre,” has been officially announced as the director of the next James Bond film at MGM and EON Pictures.

Fukunaga will replace Danny Boyle on the still-untitled film. Boyle departed the project last month over creative differences and the announcement comes after weeks of speculation about his replacement with Fukunaga’s name not even mentioned in previously rumored contenders.

Producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli said in a statement: “We are delighted to be working with Cary. His versatility and innovation make him an excellent choice for our next James Bond adventure.”

In addition, MGM has also announced that filming will begin at Pinewood Studios on March 4th 2019 and have locked in a February 14th 2020 release. Fukunaga most recently helmed all episodes of Netflix’s “Maniac” series starring Emma Stone and Jonah Hill, that launches this Friday.
